Discontinuity (linguistics)
In linguistics, discontinuity is the phenomenon of phrases being broken up (i.e. discontinuous) when linearised. For example, if one wishes to break up the sentence "is this wine delicious?" they will find a discontinuous verb phrase: "is _ wine delicious?" and a continuous noun phrase "this wine."[cite:@ranta2004grammatical]
