hello. i am madeleine,IPA: /ˈmædəlɪn/, but i'm not picky; it/she. guppy, or sydney, and this is my website where i publish my personal notes."personal notes," meaning that you should take claims made here with a grain of salt }:). i try my best to cite sources, but i have a talent for misinterpreting and misrepresenting them ^_^. another thing to keep in mind is that my notes are unfortunately not written with web accessibility in mind — they're written with me in mind, and happen to be made public. i sincerely apologise for that and would like to maximise accessibility where feasible. i am an amateur in several fields and a master of zero. these fields, decreasing in proficiency according to the function 2n, are:

most of these pages are stubs, but are nonetheless good jumping-off points thanks to the "backlinks" section at the bottom of the page. i've marked my personal favourites with a dagger (†).

i have an unreasonable obsession for citation (with zotero). i am largely unsuccessful as a software developer, despite what my hobbies would suggest, i'm currently most interested in pursuing maid/cleaning/housekeeping work... but i have some cute not-really-software projects online:

i am also a deer.

more on the website

it's quite the work in progress! issues everywhere. honestly, it is a horrible mess in every respect LOL. despite that, i've forced myself to put it online lest i continue yak-shaving any longer. gotta put it online eventually, and no matter when that is, i'll feel that it's "too early." may as well rip the bandage off now.

almost every page on this site is generated from an org-mode file, even the "page not found" page. the vast majority of linkage is facilitated by org-roam. nodes can be reached at /id/«UUID» or /n/«slug».my deertopia.net slugs are merely a terse notation for UUIDs. see UUIDs in 22 characters.

organisation

many pages have begun to rot as my note-taking workflow has evolved on without them. i occasionally touch these notes up as i find them.

the most readable, well-formatted pages take the shape of encyclopedic articles. some take the form of "projects" — loose collections of tasks and ideas that quickly fall out of date. others are like diary entries, and even others are just lists. a handful are "stubs" — an often-transient state where a node is created for the sake of linkage, but not yet populated with meaningful content.it's very easy to see stubs as nothing more than big ugly "TODOs," but i eventually came to see value in their linkage alone. the undeveloped contents are ultimately unproblematic in face of the organisational structure provided by (back)links between stubs. org-roam is about drawing connections between ideas; although i evidently have little to say on emacs alone, emacs is a common link between many of my more-comprehensive musings. i've selected a few representatives of each kind:

organisationally, my single greatest influence is that of my one true love, wikipedia. my citation practises, many of my stylistic practises, the way i structure my documents, my linking habits, etc. are all adopted from wikipedia.

aesthetics

this gorgeous colour palette in light and dark was made by my own dear bestie pro surfer and real life fox cole*. thank you coleeeeeeeee ^_^!

otherwise, this stylesheet is entirely based on tufte-css,my CSS is modified directly from tufte-css, and my habit of margin-notes was adopted from the tufte-css demonstration site }:). with additional inspiration from the nlab, grug.design, bettermotherfuckingwebsite.com, and motherfuckingwebsite.com.

my font family of choice is IBM plex, for english, korean, and mathematics. in prose, the face has a calm, neutral tone that i appreciate. it takes itself seriously without straying from modesty }:). in mathematics, ... it's mostly just nice to have matching fonts }:P.

rare pages such as this homepage are written in my "natural typing voice," with these ♥ intimate ♥ lowercase letters, but the majority of my notes are encyclopedic or narrative in nature, where correct grammar, formal tone, and a third-person perspective are appropriate — what these "high-effort" notes lack in incorrect capitalisation, they make up for in clumsy prose and poor organisation ^_^.

features

it should come as no surprise that my graph view is directly based on org-roam-ui.yet to be implemented lmfao like any other self-respecting doe, i intend to minimise the percentage of my life spent writing, thinking about, or interacting with javascript, encouraging me to rely heavily on preexisting work such as that of hugo cisneros.[cite:@cisneros2021my]

math is currently rendered at compile-time via TEMML and wherever TEMML falls short.open up your browser's dev tools! notice how the Temml logo is a Temml-rendered MathML tag, while the XeTeX logo is a XeTeX-rendered SVG. this is easily the most brittle chunk of the codebase. sorry!

the commutative diagrams found in my category theory notes are always made in quiver.
