Coffee à la Faye

Whilst visiting Faye, I'd enjoyed the best coffee I've tasted — I usually don't enjoy coffee! I'm not very familiar with the process of brewing coffee, so I will document it here.

Instructions

  1. Heat water to 195–205°F (90–96°C).

  2. Whilst waiting for the water to boil, you may grind up your beans. The usual rule of thumb demands 15 grams of water for every gram of coffee, but this may be adjusted to taste.[cite:@grewal2021how][cite:@kumpunen2025coffee] An ideal grind consistency will approximately resemble that of kosher salt.

  3. Once the water has boiled, the French press is to be preheated. Fill the French press with hot water to 1⁄4 capacity.

  4. Pour the coffee grounds into the French press, and shake to level the grounds into a flat layer at the bottom.

  5. Pour hot water into the French press in a circular motion until the press is halfway full. Let the coffee bloom for 30 seconds.

  6. Use a spoon to stir the crust formed atop the mixture.

  7. Pour the remaining water to fill the French press up to the top. Equip the press with its lid, and lower the plunger such that it rests atop the liquid. Let the coffee steep for 4 minutes.

  8. Push the plunger down slowly to filter the grounds. A grind that is too fine will take a lot of effort to push down, a grind that is too coarse will provide little to no resistance.

  9. Serve with ice cubes and creamer. Refrigerate what you don't immediately drink }:).
