OpenUTAU
Relevant music theory
See Music theory.
The thick lines numbered at the top divide the timeline into bars.
In OpenUTAU, the bars are visibly divided into beats.
Most songs have a time signature of 4⁄4.[cite:@happily2024how] This means that there are four beats per bar.
Tuning
Velocity
Velocity controls the length of the consonant part of the sample (i.e. that before the pink line). It can be used to align a sample to the beat if it begins slightly early or late, or to add stress/emphasis (when singing in English). Velocity is very important in English UTAU!
STP
STP cuts off a number of milliseconds from the beginning of a note.
Modulation
"basically how autotuned something is."[cite:@utaforum.net2016quick] 0% is the most autotuned, while 100% is the least.
Folklore
Emulating "head voice:" high notes should sung be in a softer voice.
