Idiom (linguistics)
In linguistics, a non-compositional phraseme, or idiom, is an utterance that, whilst being morphologically composed of multiple components, derives meaning from none or few of them — an idiom does not represent the sum of its parts. An idiom is said to be a full idiom, if it derives meaning from none of its components, and a semi-idiom if few, but not all.
